Thoughts on Upcoming Movies by Aaroh Palkar

So, a lot is about to happen once we arrive December 25.It’s going to be a very good year for movie goers from Star Wars to Deadpool to Batman v. Superman and many more ! Hence I would like to give my thoughts about some movies which I am very interested to see.

1.) Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens by J.J.Abrams with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

This is the one that new Star Wars fans like me and the veteran fans have been waiting for. George Lucas disappointed everyone in the year 1999 by releasing the abysmal Jar Jar fest. But to be honest I wasn’t too annoyed with Jar Jar Binks but rather the whole story was just,”meh”. George Lucas made a movie on taxation and trade routes you think that was going to work out ?

Anyways that is a part of the past and it doesn’t matter me anymore. What I’m curious about now is how The Force Awakens will live up to the hype. Looking from the trailers the movie looks great and I think the kids, the teenagers and as well as the adults will love it. It almost seems like a reboot which it might even be. The new cast as well as the originals from the trilogy are going to make this film a blast to watch. By the way Mr.Abrams you did a very good job with the trailers by just showing bits and pieces while not revealing anything about the plot unlike some movie trailers *coughs* Batman V.Superman *coughs*.

2.) The Hateful Eight by Quentin Tarantino with Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Kurt Russell and Channing Tatum.

The Hateful Eight is the new movie by the one and only “Mr.Brown” Quentin Tarantino. This movie I remember seeing the poster for the first time and then reading the synopsis and I was so pumped. I saw the trailer like 4 or 5 times and it looks really well shot for starters and the cast is amazing. Even Channing Tatum is in this movie.

Yeah Channing Tatum in a Tarantino film made me curious. The trailer hasn’t given any glimpse of him as I think they’re keeping it as a surprise. And yes I did promise to review all of Tarantino’s movies but I recently thought of watching Jackie Brown and in between the movie I just got bored. I mean just really bored maybe because I have a very short attention span at times and I was also preparing for my exams. But, maybe I’ll give it a whirl or just go on to the next flick and then review this one.

3.) Deadpool directed by Tim Miller with Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano and Ed Skrein.

“The Merc with a mouth” is finally going to have his own feature film and I am looking forward for this one because of it’s uniqueness. Deadpool is a character who is fully aware that he is in a comic or a video game and his fourth wall breaking antics are going to be a treat see. The trailer was OK but I liked the part in the end when he looks at the screen and says,” I’m touching myself tonight.” that was awesome and I expect the movie to be like this. Different and Bold. Jessica Jones is maybe the first R-rated show by Marvel and Deadpool is following the same lead.

And due to the reason stated above Deadpool is a movie which has got me worried as of now because of the censorship. It’s an R-rated movie and I think that we won’t get to see the version that is intended by the makers for the audience and it’s a big issue for me as I want to see the intended version. Who knows what is going to be the fate of this movie Censor Board wise.

4.) Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice directed by Zack Snyder with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Gal Gadot.

maxresdefault (1)

The sequel to Man of Steel which was a boring movie but I loved the action scenes as those are the kinds of things you would want to see in a Superman film. Henry Cavill did a good job, I liked him in the movie. But, this next installment is all about making or breaking the DC Universe but they’ve already planned out a Batman reboot to be directed by Ben Affleck himself, a Suicide Squad movie and a Justice League movie. So, even if this movie bombs we’re probably going to get a whole cinematic universe on our hands.

This was one of the movies just like Star Wars shrouded in mystery regarding it’s casting, the plot and many other things like cameos etc. But, that sadly was made a thing of the past by the most revealing trailers ever. They basically gave out the three acts of the movie. Maybe they really haven’t shown everything but this was really a dumb move and by god the last scene they show in the trailer was one of the most out of place thing I’ve seen in the trailer. For me DC comics has been the dark side of Superhero genre and Marvel more on the fun popcorn side. But, that last scene was just bad.

5.) Captain America : Civil War directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo with Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. , Tom Holland, Scarlet Johansson and Marisa Tomei.

This one is going to be epic. I loved the trailer and just the whole feel of the movie is so good. We finally got to see Black Panther and he looks really good. The conflict between Iron Man and Captain America is really sad to see. We might even get Spider man in this one but that’s still under wraps.

I think this movie might be a contender for best movie. I feel that this movie is going to elevate the MCU ( Marvel Cinematic Universe ) to a new level. This movie is going to change fates for just about every character involved. I can’t wait for this one to arrive in the theaters.

So, these are the movies that I am very much anticipated for and I would love to know what movies are you all guys waiting for by writing it in the comments.

Thank you very much for reading and have a nice day.

Tusk (2014) Movie Review by Aaroh Palkar

Tusk directed by Kevin Smith with Justin Long, Michael Parks, Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez.

Summary :

Podcaster Wallace Bryton ends up being held captive by  old time seafarer Howard Howe who has his own plans for Wallace.

So Tusk is a horror/comedy movie by Kevin Smith the director of Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma and many other movies. I love movies by Kevin Smith. My first Kevin Smith movie was Clerks and I was blown away it was so good. The movie is completely dialogue driven and I never for once got tired of it. But, moving on to Tusk

The plot of Tusk actually was inspired from this one very weird Gumtree advertisement which Kevin Smith read on his podcast with his friend/producer Scott Mosier which inspired Smith to make it into a full-length feature film.

So, I was kind of trying to not see anything regarding about this movie on the internet before watching it and I’m really satisfied with this movie. I know not everyone likes this movie but I was actually hooked on it till the end. Yes, some parts in between were like “Huh ?” but I enjoyed this movie to the fullest.

So, my in depth thoughts on this movie are as follows :

1.) The plot of Tusk is unique. This whole movie is unique. It starts of as a comedy then slowly progresses into the mystery genre and then becomes something really uncomfortable to watch but I loved every bit of it.

Don’t be fooled by the gimmicky part of this movie. There is a good amount of character background. As the movie progresses which at times goes back and forth between the past and present, we learn things about these characters especially the lead Wallace Bryton played by Justin Long has these secrets about him.

Genesis Rodriguez gave a very good performance and that monologue she had was really good and felt genuine. There is this small cameo by a certain famous Hollywood actor which I won’t spoil but I liked his bit except with a certain flashback the character tells about. That scene was just boring.

2.) Michael Parks deserves his own point because he was that good. I loved his role as this crazy handicapped guy with this weird obsession. The way he speaks the dialogues in such a smooth way was really nice.

3.) The movie was very funny in the first half and then very good as a mystery but I hated it when even this one scary scene where something happens to Justin Long and this really calm music is playing in the background. I mean I just didn’t find that tune in-sync with the scene. Then there is this bit by Michael Parks right near the end which was so weird. This whole movie is weird but good weird.

4.) The ultimate reveal was really good. I was so shocked when I saw it. That “WTF !” moment was so good. The ending of the movie is not what you would expect.

My only gripe with this movie is that maybe it should’ve been a proper horror movie which would’ve made it even more popular. And I read this on the internet that this movie is the first movie in a trilogy called the True North Trilogy.

I would recommend you to check out this movie because of a really weird story but amazing performances by all the cast and for the special cameo appearance because always go “Full Walrus”.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

Shovel Knight (2014) Game Review by Aaroh Palkar

Shovel Knight developed by Yacht Club Games.

Summary :

Shovel Knight must battle “The Order of No Quarter” to reach the Enchantress to save his beloved Shield Knight.

Shovel Knight is a side-scrolling platformer which reminds you of the simpler times. When games didn’t have long cut scenes or long tutorials. It starts by directly putting you in a level without giving you any tutorial.

Simplicity is the thing which makes Shovel Knight so great. Simplicity and at times soul crushing difficulty. This game is so good. Although it has the addition of checkpoints this game is reminiscent of games like Super Mario Bros. Metroid, Castlevania and the rest.

It takes a lot of elements from all these games like the pogo stick jump from Ducktales, health in the form of food behind breakable walls like Castlevania and even the jumping style from Super Mario Bros.

My thoughts

1.) The plot of Shovel Knight is very simple. Save the princess from the castle. But don’t let the plot fool you, this game has so much heart that it is fun to play.

2.) The soundtrack of Shovel Knight is very good. Every level has it’s own background track which helps in setting the mood for the level.

3.) This game is difficult. I kid you not every level in this game is different. From the slippery ice to moving walls this game has everything. I found myself giving up at several points. This game is like Dark Souls but as an 8-bit side-scroller. Ever level design is different ranging from slippery ice to moving walls.

4.) The game mechanics are very simple. Two buttons for jump, D-Pad for movement if you’re playing using a controller and two more buttons for scrolling through your items.

5.) The art in this game is really good which reminds you of all those old NES games.

Overall this is a very enjoyable game with lots of challenges and defeats. I would recommend all of you to play this game at least once to just experience that how beautiful 8-bit games can be rather than playing those same action games with overblown graphics and no story.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Tokyo Ghoul (2014) Anime Review by Aaroh Palkar

Tokyo Ghoul directed by Shuhei Morita with Natsuki Hanae, Sora Amamiya and Katsuyuki Konishiwa

Summary :

Kaneki is forced to adapt to the lifestyle of a ghoul after being converted into one.

So, after avoiding this anime for so long I thought of finally watching it and boy was I surprised. Tokyo Ghoul or TG is an amazing anime. The story, the dialogue, the music, everything is so good. I think I did the right thing by watching this anime so late because now I can watch the complete second season of the show.

What are my thoughts about this anime ? Let’s find out :

1.) The story of TG is really simple but with a lot of character and plot development. The setting of Tokyo divided into several wards is good. But, the thing that steals the cake here is the more deeper meaning of the whole situation going on.

There isn’t any villain in this story at least not for me. It’s more about these two sides i.e. The humans and the ghouls. People from both the sides have their own unique and personal reasons to fight each other. Someone lost a loved, somebody lost a friend etc. The whole show revolves around this theme of “Us vs. Them” which is fantastic.

2.) I went into TG thinking that this is going to be another action anime but it is more than that. It’s about finding you own Identity, to keep a hold on your humanity even though you just want to give in to your desires is what makes this show so great.

The mental struggle Kaneki faces is so disturbing to see. This boy who can’t live with the humans has to stay away from his friends is just so heart-breaking. And not just Kaneki but everyone have their reasons for the things they are doing which makes it a very strong emotional show.

3.) The music is great the opening “Unravel” is one of the most amazing song I’ve ever heard and it goes perfectly with the show. There are some scenes where they play this song and it just merges into the scene so well. The background score is good as well.

The animation is amazing. Some effects are truly great. The art for the special weapons of these ghouls is so unique for every ghoul especially the girl Touka.

4.) TG comprises of just 12 episodes which is great because this anime is just one big movie. I think one would enjoy it more as a binge watch rather than see each episode after a day or so.

So, if you ¬†haven’t seen Tokyo Ghoul you need to give it a chance because it is a great show with amazing characters, music, animation and action.

Thank you for reading.
